See it live! Elwha Dam Removal Web Cams

Elwha dam removal

The largest dam removal project in U.S. history has begun and you can see it live!

The Elwha Dam removal will reopen more than 70 miles of pristine salmon spawning habitat in the Elwha River and its tributaries.  All five species of Pacific salmon are predicted to return to one of the Pacific Northwest’s most productive salmon streams and the salmon population is projected to reach nearly 400,000.  Considering its current salmon population is 3,000 this project is monumental for salmon restoration.   Watch this dam come down piece-by-piece.

NOSC will be measuring different habitat features such as pool and riffle lengths, large woody debris and stream depths. We are looking for hardy volunteers who can spend extending time in waist-deep water. NOSC can provide waders and boots. Please bring plenty of water and a snack.  Surveys will begin sometime in September – dates still to be determined.  Email or call Jac to get involved.
