Chum Surveys

Surveyors walking Chimacum Creek

If you haven’t stopped by Chimacum Creek during the Chum run, it is worth taking a look. Better than that, is being part of a survey team with NOSC. As a surveyor, you will take scale samples, count live and dead salmon, measure them, and walk through beautiful salmon habitat right in your own backyard! Since the Hood Canal Summer Chum are listed as threatened, these surveys are important- they tell us most importantly how the run is doing, whether it is incline or decline. Your help as a volunteer is appreciated to gather this important data.
Please RSVP Anna, email intern@nosc.org or call (360) 379-8051 to be on the survey team.

When: Every Tuesday in Sept. and October. 9am-12 potentially 9am-2pm

Where: Meet at the NOSC office 201 B West Patison st. Port Hadlock WA. from there you will go to the designated stretch of Chimacum Creek with 2-3 survey partners.

Surveys will be every Tuesday, meet at the NOSC office at 9am to get your gear for the day. *New waders!*, boots, and survey tools provided. The surveys will continue until late October, when the Chum stop running.

Hope to see you out there~

I will be away for most of the time when the surveys are being done, but can do surveys on 8/27, 9/24, and 10/1. Should I attend training and survey on those dates? Or wait til next year?
