Rain Garden / Stormwater-education program for Master Gardeners, StreamKeepers and Beach Watchers

Posted on by NOSC

WSU Clallam County Extension / Master Gardeners will soon be launching a Rain Garden / Stormwater-education program to train interested Master Gardeners in educating others about rain gardens as a solution to our regional water resources issues. As volunteers with a passion for environmental stewardship, we would also like to extend an invitation to Streamkeepers and former Beach Watchers to participate.

The first two workshops will take place on Wednesday, November 28 from 10am to 12pm, and Wednesday, December 5th from 10am to 2pm (or 3pm). The first session will take place at the Court House, and include an introduction to Low Impact Development, a general introduction to rain gardens and storm water management (with a presentation from the City storm water engineer, and information about their incentive programs), and information on what will be involved in being a rain garden mentor. The second session will include a classroom session devoted to site assessment techniques, and then a field trip to nearby yards to do practice site evaluations.  Spring training (dates yet to be determined) will include more hands-on training in rain garden design, installation, and maintenance.
