Forage Fish

Posted on by NOSC
Jac and Mike scooping for fish eggs!

About once a month NOSC volunteers go out to irondale beach park and Maynard to gather gallons of sand that we seive and send out to a lab for processing to find forage fish eggs. The sand lance and surf smelt are some of the forage fish that spawn at Ironadale and Maynard beach. SalmonĀ eat these forage fish as a main staple to their oceanic diet. It is important that forage fish have quality spawning habitat.
