SUMMARY:Siebert Creek
DESCRIPTION:Siebert Creek watershed has been a focal point for community-based restoration and habitat protection over the last decade. \nSiebert Creek Conservation Area is a 38.5 acre parcel along Siebert Creek between Port Angeles and Sequim. Volunteers will plant native trees and shrubs. There is a nice forested trail to an overlook of Siebert Creek and the site is located adjacent to an Olympic Discovery Trail trailhead. DESCRIPTION:We will be working with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Natural Resources\, who is leading a 10 acre field reforestation on the river’s edge. \nWe will meet at 9:15 am at the park and ride at Laird Road off of 101. From there\, we will arrange a carpool and caravan to the site. The Pysht River site is about 8 miles East of the 112 junction. Volunteers are welcome to meet us there at a later time\, but there is limited parking and the driveway gets very muddy. Southern Resident Orcas are largely threatened by the dwindling Chinook salmon populations. Come deepen your understanding of these aquatic species and the important role they play in the Salish Sea and in our communities.\nWe will be there from 11am-2pm\, making salmon and orca hats! SUMMARY:Dungeness Volunteer Planting
DESCRIPTION:The Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe and the North Olympic Salmon Coalition are seeking volunteers to help plant native trees along the Dungeness River on Saturday\, March 23\, 2019.\nIn January 2016\, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe purchased the property that will be planted\, with funding from Puget Sound Acquisition and Restoration and Floodplains by Design.\nLast year volunteers planted in this area with the long term goal of restoring the historic floodplain. Reforestation will help improve water quality on the Dungeness River and create healthy habitat for the fish and wildlife that frequent the area.\nTools and gloves will be provided\, but are in limited supply so feel free to bring your own. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m on March 23\, and will include light refreshments and hot drinks.
