Come Volunteer with the Real Learning Real Work Education Program!

Do you have a passion for salmon recovery and would like to foster that same passion in the next generation of salmon stewards? You’re in luck! The Salmon Coalition is currently coordinating for the 2022-23 season of our Real Learning, Real Work STEM education program. Real Learning, Real Work gets local 7th grade students out of the classroom and into the field to sites in need of restoration, where they work in teams to develop and implement restoration plans using STEM skills they’ve honed in the classroom. Throughout this year-long program, students learn about what constitutes quality salmon habitat, research native riparian plant species, learn about salmon biology and ecology, and ultimately design and implement their very own restoration plan. We’re looking for volunteers for upcoming field trips on October 10th (w/ Chimacum Middle School), October 13th (w/ Blue Heron Middle School), and October 25th/26th (w/ Sequim Middle School) to assist students as they study the site that they’ll have a hand in restoring later this year. If you’re interested in volunteers, please contact Lindsay McCord, Education & Outreach Coordinator @ Lmccord@nosc.org.
