About the Project:

Completed in 2016, the 3 Crabs Nearshore and Estuarine Restoration Project restored 84 acres of estuarine and off-channel habitat at Meadowbrook Creek, which is part of the greater Dungeness River estuary. These quiet channels and pools now provide essential transitional habitat where juvenile salmon from the Dungeness and other rivers will forage and grow on their journey to the ocean. Learn about the importance of estuarine restoration, the work that was completed almost a decade ago, and how the project has benefitted an entire ecosystem.

Since 1998 the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society (OPAS) has dedicated work and resources to a project that provides safe and species-specific nesting cavities for Purple Martins to help them nest and reproduce successfully and remain a part of our state’s vibrant array of birds. OPAS was an essential partner in the 3 Crabs Estuarine Restoration Project in helping to ensure the continued presence of Purple Martin nesting at the site.
