Volunteers Spend Saturday Planting Trees Along the Dungeness River
Our first tree planting event of the season was a huge success! With 30+ volunteers, we planted nearly 400 trees and shrubs along the Dungeness River.
In January 2016, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe purchased the property that was planted in, with funding from Puget Sound Acquisition and Restoration and Floodplains by Design. The Salmon Coalition has been partnering with the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe, with the long term goal of restoring the area to its historic floodplain.
On Saturday, January 5th, western redcedar, western hemlock, nootka rose, oceanspray and snowberry were planted along the raging river. Reforestation will help to improve water quality and create healthy habitat for the fish and wildlife that frequent the area. Surrounding the great work that was completed by our volunteers, were many invigorating conversations about habitat restoration. THANK YOU to everyone who made it out to this event! We are very grateful for your support and your positive energy.
If you didn’t get a chance to join us this time, we have five more tree planting events coming up. To learn more visit ourevents page. Please RSVP below to receive event details.
